The West family silver firm dates its origin to 1720, but the first documentation of the family’s association with the silver trade is in 1748. When John West (born 1734) was apprenticed to Bartholomew Mosse, Master Silversmith of Dublin. After the apprenticeship John and his brother Matthew (born 1747) both were active as silversmiths, becoming highly renowned for their craftsmanship.
